Ferdinand Omanyala is a 100-meter sprints athlete from Kenya. As far as 2022 is concerned he is the fastest in Africa. Omanyala is known to have set a record of 10.00 seconds in the 2020 Olympics at Tokyo in the semi-finals. He was the first Kenyan to take part in the 100m sprint semi-final. The Kenyan athlete is noted on the global map as having a lot of fans.

The 26year old athlete was born 2nd February 1996 in the county of Bungoma to Mr. Fred Omurwa and Shikanga Omurwa. Omanyala was not the only child in their family but has other siblings whose names are not mentioned. The most impressive part concerning his family is that they have always been supportive of his ambitions as he grew up. Her mother is his number one fan.

Ferdinand Omanyala Education Background

After completing his primary education which is not mentioned, Ferdinand proceeded to Friends
School Kamusinga
after performing well in his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education. While at Friends School he used to play rugby for the school to an extent that the Kenya Sevens Team Under-20 was in demand of him after finishing his secondary education.

When he graduated from high school Omanyala got an opportunity to study at the University of
Nairobi where he played rugby for the university. He was admitted to the university to study Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.

Omanyalas wife and Children

During his normal routine training, Ferdinand saw someone to whom his eyes got attracted to. The lady’s name is Laventa Omanyala, the two met for the first time in Nakuru during a sporting event in the year 2016 in the business competing for their various companies.

It is amazing that the two are both sprinters. Well, that is the truth as per the matter is concerned. They have been together for 6years having been blessed to have a child named Quinton Finn Omanyala.

Laventa has also featured in seven long jump races and a number of 100m races.

Ferdinand Omanyala Career Journey

Omanyala began when he was young since all his interest was in sports. He started by playing rugby
for his school before migrating to sprinting at the University of Nairobi. This was back then in 2016 when he won on the trials for Olympics 100m managing to clear at 10.37s.

Unfortunately, Ferdinand missed the chance having not reached the required standard which was 10.16s.

Being that he knew his ability Omanyala managed to raise his bar having clocked 10.01s at Lagos Nigeria in 2021. This was after initially finishing third in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 at a time of 10.01s.

At the Kip Keino Classic which was held on 18th September 2021 Omanyala broke his record set at the Tokyo Olympics recording 9.77s.

Achievements and awards clinched by Ferdinand Omanyala

Ferdinand has gotten a number of awards due to his wonderful performance. They include;

  • Managing to click 10.01s in Tokyo Olympics 2020, which is considered as fabulous performance.
  • Being the first at the White City Games, recording the best time of 10.06s.
  • At the Lahti Motonet Grand Prix, he was able to clock 10.09s emerging the victor.
  • Toyota Harrier, an award from Odibets for breaking Africa`s 100m record.

Omanyala`s Ban from Athletics

This occurred in the year 2017 when he was banned for 14 months after testing positive for a substance prohibited by the Kenyan Anti-doping Agency (ADKA). His coach too Mr. Duncan got a 2years ban with the same claims. That not being enough, he was disbarred from any athletic activities through the board in charge, of Athletics Kenya (AK).
