Dr. William Ruto is the 5th Kenya President in the history of Kenya. He began administering his duties on 13th September 2022. Ruto also served in President Uhuru`s government as a deputy president.

Dr. Ruto’s background and age

William Samoei Ruto was born in the village of Sambut in Kamagut located in Uasin Gishu County. His was born in the month of December 21, 1966, in the humble home of Mr. Daniel and Ms. Sarah Cheruiyot. His parents raised him in a Godly manner making him a dedicated member of the African Inland Church.

Dr. William Samoei began his education at Kerotet Primary School and then later proceed to join Wareng Secondary school. He schooled for a while at Wareng before being admitted to Kapsabet

Dr. William Ruto Samoei Career in poultry

Mr. William began the poultry journey as a chicken hawker on the Nairobi-Eldoret-Malaba Highway. He got inspired so much and enjoyed doing it since he earned income from it. Currently, Ruto owns a chicken farm situated in his home village Sugoi as a part of his business.

Dr. Samoei Political Career

Initially President Ruto was employed as a teacher having graduated from the University in 1990 to 1992. His political career began after being elected as the treasurer of the YK in the 1992 campaign group that was opposing the re-election of President Moi.

in 1997 and beat Reuben Chesire who was initially holding the position.

Ruto joined ODM after resigning as the KANU secretary general in 2007 and supported Odinga against Kibaki.

On 13th April 2008, he was appointed Cabinet minister for Agriculture. In the same year, he served as a member of parliament for Eldoret North until 4th March 2013.

Still, as a member of parliament, he was again transferred to the ministry of education swapping positions with Sally Kosgei on April 21, 2010, up to August 24, 2011, when he was relieved from his duties and left as a member of Parliament.

He formed a political alliance with Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013 coming up with Jubilee as a political party that won the 2013 and 2017 presidential elections.

On the 15th of August 2022, Ruto was declared as president-elect having won the August general election.

Dr. William Samoei Ruto’s corruption allegations

President William Ruto had been alleged to be involved in a land-grabbing saga over his mysteriously acquiring Weston Hotel land. Over this allegation raised against him, Dr. Ruto admitted on February 2019 that Weston hotel had been illegally acquired by the real owners who then sold him the land.

He was also alleged to be involved in the KPC Ngong forest land scandal. This occurred in 2004 when he
was charged with defrauding another state corporation Kenya Pipeline Company. The president was acquitted in 2011 but following the disagreement between Dr. Ruto and Uhuru, the police re-opened the case.

Dr. Ruto illegally took Muteshi`s land during the post-election violence leading to him being asked to pay 5 million shillings in June 2013.

Later in 2019, the news was reported that President William Ruto had irregularly acquired former vice president Joseph Murumbi’s 900-acre piece of land.

In 2010 Dr. Ruto was among the six summoned to the ICC over the 2007-8 election violence.
