Hovland did his college golf at the Oklahoma State University and this is where he nurtured his skills. His professional career began in 2014 when he won the Norwegian Amateur Golf Championship. It earned him his first ever title. He played the 2018 Amateur Emirates Australian Open as an amateur which he finished in as position 13.In 2018 he became the first Norwegian player to win the prestigious U.S. and this also qualified him to the 2019 Masters Tournament which was the 2019 U.S.

During the 2019 Masters Tournament Viktor’s performance was remarkable, as he managed to finish the three under par and this lowered his amateur award and had a tie in the 32nd position. The performance earned him the first position on the World Amateur Golf Ranking. During the 2019 U.S open he managed to finish in the 12th position which was a low amateur with 280 scores. He broke the record set by Jack Nicklaus in 1960 with the lowest 72-hole score by an amateur in the U.S. Open

He won the Puerto Rico Open in 2020 while on the PGA Tour becoming the first Norwegian to do so at the second position and third position in the 2021 Mayakoba Golf Classic. In 2021 he also won the BMW International Open on the European Tour.

In November 2021 he defended his title the World Wide Technology Championship which was held at Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen in Mexico City. He managed to win by four strokes and also did set a tournament record of 23 under par. After one month, Hovland recorded a win during the Hero World Challenge which he finished at 18 under par and a shot ahead of Scottie Scheffler. This is where the nickname “Resort King” emerged.

Viktor Hovland 2022 masters record

During the 2022 season he started with good energy and during the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on the European Tour in January he finished at top 5. The same year he also won the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic the next week, he recorded a shot in the final-round 66. This brought to the 3rd position the Official World Golf Ranking. In December he also defended his title at the Hero World Challenge which he finished with a score of 15 under par, two shots ahead of second-place finisher which placed him at the elite club of golfers.
