Susan Nakhumicha Wafula is a Kenyan politician and the current Cabinet Secretary of Health. She was born in Kitale.
She is also a strategic and seasoned supply chain professional with more than 15 years of global and multicultural experience in Agile and Intelligent supply chains and operations in the healthcare industry.
Nakhumicha’s appointment has seen her replace Mutahi Kagwe who took the health docket at a time of Covid 19.

Susan Nakhumicha Education Journey
She went to St. Brigrids Girls Kiminini in her hometown for her secondary education. Susan later joined the Kenya Medical Training Institute (KMTC) for a Diploma in Pharmacy. She also took a Diploma in Healthcare Management from the Kenya Institute of Management in 2006.
Nakhumicha holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Management from Jomo Kenyatta
University of Agriculture and Technology. Additionally, in 2012 she joined the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) where she undertook a Master of Science in Procurement and Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
She is currently undertaking a Ph.D. in Business Management, Logistics, and Supply Chain from JKUAT. She is expected to complete her Masters in 2023.
The CS also worked as an intern at the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA).
Susan Nakhumicha Career Journey
Nakhumicha has majorly worked with Non-Governmental Organizations and corporates in the health sector.
She has procurement expertise in Pharmaceuticals including medicines against HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria supply management including the development of procurement and supply Management (PSM) plans in compliance with Global Fund and other donors.
Nakhumicha also has experience in the procurement of medical equipment and devices, stationary, Printing works, Logistics, and transport services among others.
She was the Head of Supply at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Global Program for Research and Training. Therefore, she has extensive experience working under the parameters set by donors like USAID, USCF, and Global Programs.
The CS is also experienced in delivering transactional and procurement advisory services to public and private sector clients.
She worked at AAR Healthcare Limited as the Pharmacy in charge of the Kisumu branch in 2006.
In addition, She served as the Head of the Procurement and logistics department. She worked
there for eight years, three of them as the purchasing manager of the Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies.
During the 2022 general elections, she ran for the seat of women’s representative for Trans Nzoia County under the Ford Kenya party ticket but lost.
She was appointed Cabinet Secretary for health after being nominated by President William Ruto.
