Madzayo served as a judge of the industrial court Of Kenya which was changed to the Employment and Labour Relations Court.
Hom Madzayo first took to the political scene in 2007 here he contested for the Bahari constituency member of parliament but unfortunately lost.
He tried his luck again in the 2012 general election where he vied for the senatorial seat and won. In the 2017 general election, he was re-elected under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.
The senator has also served as the deputy minority leader in the Senate.
