Rosalinda Soipan Tuya is a Kenyan politician and current Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Environment and Forestry appointed by president William Ruto.

She was born in 1979, in Narok County to Samson Ole Tuya who is a former Narok South Member of Parliament. While spending her life with her father, she learned about underprovided girls in her community which became a motivation to help girls and women in her area. She is the 4th child of seven kids from her parents. She is the former women representative for Narok County.

Education Journey

She is an alumnus of Kenya High School between 1995 and 1998 where she sat for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. Soipan is graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law in 2002. Soipan later in 2010 earned her Master of Law from the University of Washington, USA.

Career of Soipan Tuya

Before joining politics, Hon. Soipan worked for various government and civil society organizations like being a United Nations Volunteer Specialist to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Kituo cha Sheria and the previous Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. From 2004 to 2008, she worked as a legal advisor for Mainyoito Pastoralist Integrated Development Organization.

Soipan Tuya Political Career

The cabinet secretary for Environment and Forestry was the Women Representative for Narok County in 2013. Additionally, she is also referred to as the ‘Iron Lady.’

Hon. Soipan lead the Parliamentary Committee advocating for legislation to improve conflict procedures and resolve land and family conflicts in a gender-sensitive manner.

She also served in the Committee on Implementation and the Departmental Committee on Defense and Foreign Relations from 2013 to 2017. From 2017 to date, she is a member of the committee on Justice and legal affairs, Procedures, and House rules and was the first chairperson in 2017 in the Chairperson’s panel.

Soipan earlier abandoned the Narok gubernatorial seat to become president Ruto’s new cabinet secretary for environment and forestry replacing Keriako Tobiko and becoming the first Maasai woman nominated into the cabinet. Her experience in different fields provides her with the opportunity to become a cabinet secretary.

Hon. Soipan Tuya is married to former Narok county Assembly Majority Leader Stephen Ole Kudate. and is blessed with two children.

She estimated her net worth to be worth around $1.2 million or 152 million shillings. She stated before the National Assembly Committee that her net worth includes all of her assets like house, rental development, savings accounts, motor vehicles, and jewelry among other things.
