Ruth Kulundu is an election expert at IEBC. However, her tenure of office is hanging on a loose end after she was sent an interdiction letter by IEBC CEO, Hussein Marjan. Kulundu holds a masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) – strategic management and a Bachelors degree in Commerce (B.Com) from the University of Nairobi.
Additionally, she is an associate of Chartered Insurance of London (ACII) and Kenya (AIIK)
Associate of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Kenya Chapter).

Kulundu entry at IEBC
Before raising to the rank of Deputy Commission Secretary (DCS) Operations, Ms. Kulundu worked as IEBC Regional Elections Coordinator from 2010-2017. She later as Siaya County Elections Manager.
Her appointment as Deputy Commission Secretary was announced by IEBC on March 11, 2022. During the announcement, she was cited as the most qualified candidate for the position. Indeed she was. IEBC had received a total of 511 applicants for the position.
She has 12 years of experience in the management of elections at IEBC. However, her involvement with the four commissioners who rejected the 2022 presidential results has seen her get an interdiction letter.
The letter accused her and the four commissioners who disputed the 2022 presidential election results picked law firms without involving the CEO. Therefore she was suspended on the basis of gross misconduct. However, the matter ended in court.

The court suspends IEBC from interdicting Kulundu’s
On September 30, 2022 justice Jacob Gakeri of the Employment and Labour Relations Court (ELRC) directed IEBC to suspend its decision to interdict Deputy Chief Executive Officer Ruth Kulundu pending the hearing of cases challenging it.
This was after Azimio la Umoja allied MPs and their supporters camped at the IEBC offices to protest her interdiction. However, they were dispersed by the police tear gas canisters. The legislators termed the interdiction as lacking substantive basis or evidence.
