R. Kelly aka Robert Sylvester Kelly (his real name) is an American former famous artist and one of the best-selling music artists in the United States. Additionally, he is the most successful R&B male musician of 1990s. R Kelly is also a song writer, record producer, actor and former semi-professional basketball player.

Kelly joined music in at the age of 25 with a debut album. His first solo album found a success as 12 play yielded R&B hits Bump N Grind, Sex me and Your Body’s callin’ Kelly gained recognition in 1989 when along with Marc McWilliams, Shawn brooks and Vincent Walker participated in a Tv show ‘Big break’ and they formed a group called Musically Gifted Men (MGM).

In 1990 the MGM Recorded and released their first single ‘Why you Wanna play me.’ In 1992 Kelly released his debut album ‘Born into 90’s along with a musical group called ‘public announcement.’ His first Solo album ’12 play’ was released in November 1993. His Self-titled album ‘R. Kelly‘ was out in 1995 which became a huge hit and spawned three number one singles.

In 1997 he signed a contract to play a professional basketball with Atlantic City Seagull. In 1998, he released ‘R’ Kelly wrote. Additionally, he produced the majority of the soundtrack of the 1999 comedy-drama film ‘life’ starring Eddy Murphy and Martin Lawrence.

The album known as ‘The best of both worlds’ sold 285000 copies in its opening week becoming number two on billboard 200. The album ‘chocolate factory’ in 2003 became number one in the U.S Billboard 200. In 2005 he released ‘TP.3 Reloaded’ number 4, and in 2007 ‘Double up’ Featured the single ‘I’m a flirt Remix’ which peaked at no 1 on the ‘the hot Rap tracks. Moreover, in 2009 he released the first ever mixed tape ‘gangsta Grillz’. In 2010 he released ‘Love letter’.

In 2011 he was named the No one R&B artist of the last 25years by Billboard.

In 1995 his song ‘you are not alone’ in the U.S single chart number one in the ‘Guinnes Book of World Records.’ Kelly is the winner of the 3 ‘Grammy’ Awards- Best male R&B vocal performance, Best R&B song, Best song written for a motion picture, Television and other Visual Media. He won the American Music award twice in 2000 and 2005.

In 2002 he was sued by Patrice Jones and Montina woods claiming he impregnated a minor while the letter accused him of filming her during sex without her knowledge.
