
Biography
Profesor Njuguna Ndungu is the former Central Bank Governor. He was a key person in drafting the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) manifesto. In role has seen him appointed as cabinet secretary of the Treasury and Planning in the administration of President William Ruto. His appointment took place on September 27 2022 awaiting vetting by parliament.
Additionally, Njuguna Ndungu is an associate professor of Economics at the University of Nairobi. He is also a Veteran Kenyan economist and economic researcher.

Njuguna Ndungu was born in 1960 in Lodwar Turkana county, Further details about his childhood as well as his primary and secondary education are not disclosed.
Njuguna Ndungu’s Education
After completing his secondary education Ndungu joined the University of Nairobi where he attained a Bachelor of Art in Economics and a Master of Art in Economics.
He later went on to the University of Gothenburg in Sweden where he attained a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics.
Njuguna Ndungu Career
Before his appointment to become the Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya he worked as the director of training at the African Economic Research Consortium.
The new cabinet secretary also worked as an associate professor of economics at the University of Nairobi.
Ndungu also worked as a regional program specialist for the Eastern and Southern Africa Region office, Nairobi of the International Development Research Centre, Canada.
In addition, he worked as a principal analyst and head of the Macroeconomic and Economic Modelling Division at the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis.
He has taught and researched various fields of Economics. He also published in International journals in multiple books on different topics.

Prof. Ndungu achievements
While serving as CBK governor, he is credited to have facilitated mobile money transfers. This is despite opposition from commercial banks.
Mobile banking has enhanced financial access in Kenya.
Njuguna Ndungu corruption allegations
In 2014 Ndungu was facing an allegation of corruption in a 1.2billion tender to install a modern security system at the institution.
In 2018 the court of appeal judges sat down to pen a decision on Ndungu’s case. On December 20, 2018, the majority judges’ order was delivered and Professor Ndungu was cleared from graft charges after 3years in court adding that the charges pressed were unjustified.
