Kassel began his career journey in Hockey with the USA Hockey National Team Development program at the age of 18. He then did his hockey college at an NCAA Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) the Minnesota University. During the 2006-2007 season despite battling with testicular cancer he still has remarkable resilience. In 2009 Kessel was traded to Toronto Maple Leafs where he signed a six year deal.
