Biography of Peris Tobiko

Peris Tobiko is a Kenyan politician and the current Senator for Kajiado County. She also served as the Kajiado East Member of Parliament for ten years from 2013 to 2022. She was the first Maasai woman to be elected as an Mp. Peris has also worked on many donors.

 Peris Tobiko was born in 1969 in Mashuru Kajiado County in the Maasai community, she is approximately 55 years old.

Her parents were Tobiko Ole Pashole her father and Maria Siyiaito Tobiko, Peris also had 14 siblings. However, the exact detail of each sibling is scanty.

Peris attended Mashuuri Primary school for primary education and then joined Moi High School Kabarak. She then joined University of Nairobi to pursue Bachelor and Master of Arts in Political Science. From the same University she holds Master of Arts Degree in Government/International Relations.

Peris is married to Kishanto Ole Suuji and the couple are blessed with two children.

Peris Tobiko’s Career

Peris’s career began in 1994 where she worked with the Ministry of Agriculture, livestock and marketing as the assistant secretary. In 1995 she was made the Benefits Manager by the National Social Security Funds (NSSF). She also worked as a consultant for many donor agencies.

Politics

Peris joined politics in 2007 which was during the general elections where she vied for the position of Member of Parliament for Kajiado East Constituency but didn’t win the election. She was appointed as the Board Member in the Centre for Multiparty Democracy in 2008.

In 2009 she served as a Board Member of the National Museum of Kenya where she served for two years. She also worked at the Water Service Trust Fund where she was a Trustee for two years. After the service she worked for the Tana Athi Service Board as the Chairperson.

In 2013 Peris made a comeback and vied for the position of Kajiado East MP that she lost and this time she managed to win and became the Member of Parliament for Kajiado East. During the 2017 general elections she was again reelected to represent Kajiado East in the National Assembly. During the 2022 general elections she had a quest for the gubernatorial position of Kajiado County but lost her party primaries. And was appointed to represent Kajiado County in the senate.
