In July 2012, Patrick decided to quit his college career as a golfer when he was remaining with 2 years to finalize in order to become a professional. He joined Travelers Championship where he made his first debut though he never managed to make a cut. Cantlay was holding the best position for the record of 55 weeks. He also earned the first paycheck as a professional after finishing at the 66th at AT&T National.

The next week at the Greenbrier Classic he managed a tie for 38th position. In 2013 during the Web.com Tour’s Colombia championship he got his first win as a professional. At the eleventh position he managed to get his PGA Tour Card for the Web.com Tour Finals which were held in 2014.

In late 2014 season he played one tournament but never took part in the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He made it to the Web.com Tour Finals at the 10th position at the Northern Trust, and 9th position at the BMW Championship and 13th place at the Dell Technologies Championship.

During the opening of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Cantlay managed to win in the 2018 season. In 2019 Patrick won the PGA championship where he tied at the third place with Brooks Koepka. Two weeks later during the Memorial Tournament in Dublin in Ohio had another win and took with him the Memorial Tournament victory in June for the second time. In August during the BMW Championship in August on the sixth hole. He won the FedEx Cup, won the PGA Tour Player of the Year 2021 award.
