Okiya Omtata Okioti is a Kenyan politician, engineer and an activist who’s has fought against many constitutional decisions including the 2023 financial bill. He is also the current Senator for Busia County following the 2022 general election.

Okiya Omtata attended St Pauls Secondary school where he did his form one and two before moving to St. Peters school in Mukumu where he sat for his O level exams. He then joined form 5 and 6 in the same school and did his final secondary school exams in 1983.

After passing his exam he got admission to study Bachelors of Commerce at the University of Nairobi but he declined and joined St Augustine Mabanga in Bungoma County. He also did Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at Kenya Polytechnic where he graduated with diploma.

Okiya career activism started way back when he was still in high school where the students could be given a chance to speak on their burning issues to their teachers and he could stand firm and speak with so much convince without any fear. He also declined his admission to the UoN but instead joined St Augustine in Mabanga Bungoma County.

Omtata also won a land case that had gone for 8 years in court and recovered a government land of over 800 acres in Nasewa, Matayos in Busia County. That same year Omtata was at the forefront to challenge the Central Bank of Kenya for including Jomo Kenyatta’s image on the new currency note which he claimed that contravened the Article 232(4) of the Constitution and the case was dismissed by three high court judges because the case was lacking merit.

Omtata have been in the frontline to fight decisions that are unconstitutional and have made a number of appearances in court more than any other Kenyan. Lately, Omtata headed to court to challenge the 2022/2023 financial bill.

During the 2022 general election Omtata was elected the Busia County senator and is the current senator of Busia County.
