He started at college football in the University of Georgia, during the 2019 NFL Draft he was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs during the second round with the 56th overall pick as the fifth wide receiver selected that year. In a match against Oakland Raiders he caught four passes for 61 yards and his first NFL touchdown in the 28–10 road victory.
During week three in a match against the Baltimore Ravens he managed to catch two passes of 97 yards together with an 83- yard receiving touchdown. In week ten in a match against the Tennessee Titans, Hardman recorded a 63-yard touchdown. During the finals against the Los Angeles Chargers Mercole caught a 30-yard reception and returned a kickoff for a 104 yard touchdown with a win of 31–21.

In 2020 season in a match against New York Jets he made a record of seven passes in 96 yards inclusive of 30-yard receiving touchdown he the tested COVID19 positive and therefore resumed in November at week 11 in a match against Las Vegas Raiders with 1:14, in week 14 it was against Miami Dolphins and made 41 receptions for 560 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.

Druring the AFC Championship match against Buffalo Bills, Hardman muffed a punt return that the Bills recovered at the 3-yard. In Super the Bowl match against Tampa Bay Buccaneers Hardman caught two passes for four yards with a 31–9 loss.
During the postseason in the 2021 season, he scored a rushing touchdown during the AFC championship. In overall during the 2021 season, he in 17 games he recorded 59 receptions for 693 yards and two touchdowns.
During the 2022 season in it week one he in three receptions he recorded 16 yards and a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals, week seven against San Francisco 49ers Mercole made a record of four catches for 32 yards with 8 rushing yards in a receiving touchdown earning him the first wide receiver in the Super Bowl era to score two rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown all in one game.
In 2023 after nursing his abdominal injury he signed with the New York Jets in March.
