Biography
Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen is a Kenyan lawyer and politician who was born on 12th March 1979 in Elgeyo Marakwet.
Currently, he is the elected Senator of Elgeyo Marakwet a position he holds from 2013 to 2022. Additionally, he is nominated as a cabinet secretary for Roads, Transport and Public Works.

Kipchumba Murkomen Education Journey
Not much is known about his primary and secondary schooling years. He joined the University of Nairobi where he got his Bachelor’s Degree in Law.
Later he went to the American University Washington College of law in America to further his studies after graduating from the University of Nairobi.
Murkomen later joined the University of Pretoria in Pretoria, South Africa.

Murkomen Career
He joined politics in 2012 when he became a member of the United Republican Party (URP). Murkomen was then elected Senator of Elgeyo Marakwet for the first time in 2013 under URP.
He was re-elected in 2017 under the Jubilee and defeated the former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo. Additionally, he was also nominated as the majority leader of the senate but lost it to Samuel
Poghisio.
In the 2022 general elections, he retained his seat and managed to beat the outgoing governor Alex Tolgos who followed him with 20,648 votes.
Murkomen garnered 141,091 votes under the UDA party ticket while Tolgos was on Jubilee. However, the senator was nominated by President William Ruto for the Transport, Roads and Public Works Cabinet slot.
His nomination has left a fierce political battle with a record 30 aspirants looking to succeed him.

Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen is married to Gladys Wanjiru. The couple got married in 2009 in an African-themed wedding and have four children three sons and a daughter.

The senator is estimated to be worth Ksh. 500 million. He is said to own a multi-million house in Karen, and 200 acres of land in Kachibora, Trans Nzoia among others.
Murkomen Parents
Kipchumba Murkomen’s father is a stout Christian having served as a Catechist at Embobut Catholic Church. His dad was homeschooling him to read and understand English while Murkomen was still in primary school.
The father bought books and novels to improve his English. He is a graduate of AIC Kao la Amani College with a certificate in Evangelism and Church leadership.
