Kathuri Murungi is the current Senator of Meru County following the 2022 general elections on a UDA ticket. Before ascending to a senatorial seat, he served as MP of Imenti South from 2013 for 2022.

Kathuri Murungi Education background
Kathuri attended Machikine Primary school which is located in Imenti South from 1980 to 1987 where he did his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). After primary school he joined Ndagene High school in 1988 and sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 1992.
Between 1994 to 1998 he pursued and graduated with a BSc. in Natural Resource Management from Egerton University.

Kathuri’s career began in 1999 when he worked at the Conserve International Kenya where he served as a project coordinator. A year later in 2000 he secured a job at a company in Botswana at Enconsult as an Environmental Consultant. In 2002 he came back to Kenya and worked at Maiteih Enterprise Limited where he resigned. A year later and got a job as the director at the Kenface Enconsults Africa Limited.
Politics
In 2013 Kathuri left Kenface and officially joined politics. In the 2013 general elections he vied for the parliamentary position of South Imenti on a TNA party ticket. He managed to win the election hitting his close competitor Mr Gatangugi. During the 2017 general elections he made a comeback as an independent candidate and still won the position for the second time.
He has also served in various committees in the parliament departmental committees which were Environment and Natural resource committee from 2013 to 2017, Industry and cooperative from 2017, and Regional Integration also from 2013 to 2017.
During the 2022 general elections Kathuri vied for the Meru County senatorial seat on a UDA ticket and won the elections and is the current Senator of Meru County. He succeeds Franklin Mithika Linturi, CS for Agriculture and Livestock Development.
