John Praise Biography

John Mwangi Waweru, is a popular Kikuyu gospel artist known more as John Praise. He continues to rock the vernacular gospel scene by singing songs that are his life story and how they strengthen him every day. “I keep praising God not only for all He has done but much more for Whom He Is in my life. Let’s continue singing His faithfulness.” Notes John Praise in his hit release ‘Githima’.

The journey John’s music success just like many artists has a sour starting. He was born from a very poor background which placed him at a disadvantaged position of going to school. After competing primary school, John’s parents were unable to take him to school in the first term but luckily come second term he was able to secure a chance in school.

Against all odds he was able to complete his secondary education and left home, near Juja farm, and
settled near Thika where he was employed as a teacher in a primary school. The job wasn’t paying his bills as expected so he had to look for “greener pastures” thus securing a job at a furniture base.

The difficulties he was facing even after securing a new job never dissipated. Near the furniture base was a Coca-Cola depot. He could occasionally be rewarded with spoiled canned soda which he never used to taste the feeling but use to eat ugali. This troubles constantly tortured him until one day he found his breakthrough in adream.

The song ‘Githima’ is a true reflection of what he saw that night in the dream. He is now enjoying an amazing music career since releasing his first album. The reception of his gospel message has been excellent but what is admired more from him is his simple nature. He continues to act as motivation to the younger generation and a message of hope that everything is seasonal.
