How to cook pizza at home in Kenya

Do you know you can prepare pizza at home? We shall take you through the whole process of preparing pizza in your kitchen.

What is pizza?                             

Pizza is an Italian dish used worldwide. In Kenya, it is found in big towns like Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu. It is highly regarded and most men take their girlfriends out for a pizza dinner. Personally, I cook my pizza at home as a special meal.

What are the ingredients?

Pizza is made of dough, sauce, meat, sausages and vegetables and cheese.

How to prepare the dough

  1. In a like 2 liters bowl mixing (plastic, glass) add 200g of self-raising home-baking flour. If you don’t have self-raising use any white wheat flour or brown wheat flour and add a tablespoon of baking powder.
  2. Add a pinch of salt to taste and a tablespoon of sugar.  Add one cup of warm water and knead until it’s soft.
  3. Adjust water and flour accordingly.  Keep the dough aside and cover it with a tablecloth for at least 30 minutes.

How to prepare the sauce

You need the following;

  • 1 large potato
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 large carrot
  • Green pepper
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Tomato
  • Dhania (Coriander)
  • Cooking oil.

Method of preparation

  1. Clean everything including the green pepper and dhania.
  2. Peel the tomatoes, potatoes, ginger, garlic, carrots, and onions and place them in a bowl.  
  3. Chop the ingredients to medium pieces but not so small.
  4. In a clean sufuria, put all the ingredients and allow to cook. You can add two glasses of water. Add salt to taste.
  5. After the potatoes are soft and cooked remove the sufuria from the fire. Pour out the content of the sufuria into a blender and blend the mixture for 2 minutes. You can keep your sauce in a bowl.

How to prepare the meat

  1. You need 100gms chicken breast, 100 gms of smokie’s sausages one onion.
  2. Chop the sausages to round circles and keep them in a bowl.
  3. Fry one onion with oil in a frying pan. 
  4. Chop the chicken breast into small pieces and add it to the frying pan and cook it till it’s tender.

How to prepare the vegetables

You need red pepper, yellow pepper, and dhania. Clean and Chop these vegetables into small pieces and keep them in a bowl.

Grate the cheese into small pieces and keep it in a bowl.

How to arrange and cook the pizza

  1. Take the dough and roll it to achieve flatbread.
  2. Take a pan and heat it on gas or any source of the fire.
  3. After the pan is hot lower the heat a bit. Place the flat dough on the pan.
  4. Add a little oil. Cook for 30 seconds only. Do not allow it to overcook.
  5. Flip to the other side. Place the sauce you had prepared on this cooked side and smear the sauces carefully with a spoon.
  6. Place the fried chicken, place the smokie sausage on top, sprinkle the vegetables and finally place the cheese.
  7. Remove the pizza from the pan and place it on a flat plate. Cook it in a microwave for one and a half minutes.

You can serve it as a slice or as a whole as preferred. Serve it hot with a glass of juice or soda.
