Githui began her career in the National Broadcaster, KBC as a Television presenter in Kenya. She later on moved to the U.S. where she worked for the Voice of America’s Swahili Service. In the year 2004, Esther was able to interview the former American president, Barrack Obama as he was running for Illinois Senatorial seat. She was therefore, the first VOA reporter to interview him.

Esther also served as VOA’s Africa Journal host, a weekly call-in television program and anchored “Special Report Africa” which is a weekly lifestyle television magazine program sharing human interesting stories of the African continent and the diaspora.

She often conducted one on one interviews with political officials and high-profile guests such as the late Nobel Peace winner, Wangari Maathai, Ashley Judd, American actress and UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador and the late legendary U.S. boxing Champion, Joe Frazier. She also got a chance to interview South African musicians such as the late legendary jazz trumpeter, Hugh Masekela and smooth jazz guitarist, Jonathan Butler.

Her interviews included the high profiled heads of states. These were: Kenya’s former presidents, the late Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi in the year 2001 and Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta in 2015 and 2018 and U.S. president George W. Bush at the White House in the year 2002.

Githui also spoke to several U.S. Assistant Secretaries of state for African Affairs, serving under several U.S. administrations including Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield, Ambassador Johnnie Carson, Ambassador Susan Rice, Ambassador Jendayi Frazer and Walter H. Kansteiner to get the latest developments of U.S.-Africa policy.

She has as well conducted interviews with other U.S government officials who are congressional leaders like Chris Smith and a New Jersey Republican and California Democratic Congresswoman, Karen Bass. These are members of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International organization.

In the year 2013, Esther covered the breaking news on Kenya’s Westgate terrorist attacks by the al-shabab.
