Senator Erick Okongo studied at different primary schools which are Tinderet Primary School, Kericho Primary School and lastly Shauri Moyo in Kisumu where he did his CPE in 1983. Afterwards, he went to Isabania secondary school for his ‘O’ levels obtained in 1987. Later on, he went to Kabianga High school where he obtained his ‘A’ levels in 1989. He then joined the University of Nairobi where he did his Bachelor of Law.

Okongo served as the LSK president between the years 2007 and 2010 at the Law society of Kenya. He was also a Member of Media Council of Kenya. He then charred the defunct Kenya Anti-corruption commission Advisory Board (ODM) party.
