Sifuna received his early education at Kakamega Township where he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). He later joined Musingu High School where he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
After completing his secondary education, he joined the University of Nairobi where he pursued a Bachelor of Laws degree. He graduated with honors in 2005.

Edwin is an accomplished lawyer and has been in private legal practice for over 18 years. He is a partner at the law firm Watenya Sifuna & Associates Advocates, which is based in Nairobi. He started practicing at Kairu & Mack Court Advocates in 2005. Sifuna later served as the Legal and Administration officer. In addition, Sifuna also worked at Magnet Venture Ltd as the Manager, Administration.

Edwin Sifuna’s political career began in 2013 when he vied for the Kandunyi Member of parliament seat but was unsuccessful. He moved his political ambitions to the city of Nairobi where he took a hit at the senatorial seat of the county but lost to Johnson Sakaja in the 2017 general election.
In 2018 after his defeat, Edwin was elected as the Secretary General of the ODM party, a position he still holds. He took the seat after Ababu na Mwamba was outstared by the party due to a fallout with party officials.
As the Secretary-General, he is responsible for the day-to-day running of the party and plays a key role in shaping the party’s policies and agenda. He has been instrumental in the party’s efforts to strengthen its grassroots structures, promotes youth participation in politics, and increase the representation of women in political leadership positions.
In the 2022 general election, he again contested for the senatorial seat this time managing to bag a majority vote. He managed to bring down UDA’s Bishop Margaret Wanjiru who had 524,021 votes against Sifunas’ 716,876.
