Dorcus Wanjiku Rigathi Gachagua is the wife of a prominent Kenyan politician, Rigathi Gachagua. Her quiet life came to the public limelight after her husband was nominated as Kenya Kwanza’s presidential running mate. Mrs. Rigathi was born in Muranga, Central Kenya, Muranga County.
His husband, Rigathi Gachugua is the current Deputy President in Kenya. He was elected on the August 9, 2022, general election.

The early life of Dorcus Wanjiku Rigathi Gachagua
Dorcus Wanjiku was born in Muranga, Central Kenya. However, at the age of 11 years old, her family relocated to Thika following the demise of her father. At Thika, the family settled at the Kiandutu slum. She comes from a family of three brothers and 2 sisters.
The demise of her father coincided with her mother missing for six months. This set the family to a hard life. Dorcus and her sisters were employed as housemaids in different households while her brothers worked as farm workers. After six months, her mother resurfaced and it emerged she had been hospitalized for those six months.
Her father was a businessman with close dealing with Nakuru Blankets. He had two shops selling blankets, one in Nakuru and the other in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. However, the father never got a chance to fully raise his family. He passed on when Dorcus was 11 years old.
Without their father, the family got into abject poverty. Dorcus and her younger siblings sacrificed their education in favor of their two elder siblings. They put hope into the two getting education and that once educated will get them out of poverty.
Dorcus narrated that she started schooling late. To ensure that Dorcus and other children remained in school, her mother started a small business selling vegetables. The business grew to sustain her children in school.

Despite her early life challenges in abject poverty, Dorcus went to school. Her education journey started at Kiandutu. She proceeded to Alliance Girls and later St. Francis for her high school. After St. Francis, she did a teaching course at Kenyatta University (double intake of 1985/1986) but never taught.
Dorcus Wanjiku Rigathi’s career history
Dorcus started her career as a banker at the Cooperative Bank of Kenya. At the bank, she was placed in the agriculture department with coffee being her main duty. She worked at the bank for 15 years.
In 2002, Dorcus joined the House of Grace ministries where she offered herself as an usher. She later started a widow ministry within this church. Dorcus’s passion for this newly found church ministry was due to her early life.
