Davis Chirchir is currently an appointee cabinet secretary for Energy and Petroleum in President William Ruto’s administration. His appointment was done. on September 27, 2022. However, he has to be vetted by the parliament before fully assuming office.

He will be serving the ministry for the second time since he was also appointed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013. However, Chirchir was suspended from Uhuru’s cabinet in 2015 after the corruption allegation scandals.

The IT guru’s career journey kicked off at the Defunct Kenya Ports and Telecommunication (KPTC) where he rose to become a general manager and thereafter he became a senior manager of Telkom Kenya.

Between 2011 and 2013 he worked as the secretary general for the united Democratic Party (URP)

He was appointed to the cabinet in 2013 where he served until he was caught up in corruption allegations in 2015.

The politician also worked as the Information Technology Director at the defunct Interim Independent Electoral Commission.

In the 2017 general election, he was the chief presidential agent appointed by the president at that
time.

In 2022 he was appointed the chief of staff at the office of deputy president William Ruto in which he succeeded the late Ken Osinde.

On September 27, 2022, he was appointed again to be the energy and petroleum cabinet secretary by
President William Ruto.

Davis Chirchir Corruption Allegations

In 2015 Mr. Chirchir was questioned by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Corruption (EACC) over the 50 million Kenya shillings “chicken scandal” where he has maintained his innocence.

Additionally, he was also among those who were accused of receiving an undisclosed amount of money to influence tender awards when he served as a commissioner in the Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC). Latter the Office Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) recommended that the case be terminated for lack of evidence of criminal culpability on allegation of corruption seeking to influence the
award of the tender.
