He began his career in 2001 as a player for Bahia FC. However, he never began well as for the six appearances he was in the pitch he never scored a goal. He later joined Brazil national team in 2006.
Alves joined a Spanish club Seville on loan in 2002. He also played for Barcelona as a right-back scoring 21 times. Alves joined Juventus on 27th June 2016, and ended his 2-year contract on 29th June 2017.
Upon leaving Juventus, Da Silva joined Paris Saint Germain a French club (PSG) on 12th July 2017 for a two-year contract. For the 21 appearances he played for PSG he scored four times.
Sao Paulo FC signed Alves on August 1, 2019 until December 2022. For the international games Da Silva played for Brazil in 2007 during Copa America.
