After leaving the military, Feehan served in the Obama Administration as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Readiness. In this role, he helped oversee the readiness of U.S. military forces and supported the development of the Department of Defense’s budget and strategy.

In 2018, Feehan ran for Congress in Minnesota’s 1st congressional district but narrowly lost the election to Republican Jim Hagedorn. He is currently the Executive Director of the advocacy organization, Partnership for a Secure America, and a fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
