Cormac McCarthy is an American novel writer who have written many stories. He claimed that his stories are about the places he visited. Among the novels he has written are The Orchard Keeper and The Wrote Outer Dark.

McCarthy was born in July 20th 1933 in Province, Rhode Island but grew up in Knoxville in Tennesse.

McCarthy career began way back when he was still in the University where he used to publish his stories in the Phonix and art magazines and among his stories then were ” Wake for Susan” and “A Drowning Incident“. Due to his creativity during the 1959 and 1960 he was awarded the Ingram Merril Award.


His novel writing began in 1965 where he wrote and published his very first novel named The Orchard Keeper published by the Random House.

In 1968 after moving to Europe and settled in Ibiza in Spain he wrote his second Novel named Tje Wrote Outer Dark. The following year he moved back to the United States and moved in many cities like Texas Tennessee. While in the states he claimed that he writes stories about the places he visits.

What made Cormac McCarthy famous?

After about a decade McCarthy was out with another story with it’s set up in the West whose domination is characterized by violence recognized and Soarse dialogue. The novel tittle was named All the Pretty Horses which was by the National Book Critics Circle Award and earned the National Book Award for Fiction in 1992. His novels earned respect from a number of literary establishments like Ralph Ellisin, Saul Bellow and also Robert Penn Warren who were his strong fans.

Despite the success in his writings his recognition did not spread far due to his writing mechanisms which were distinctive that mostly omitted quotation marks, eschewed punctuation among others and this made it difficult to determine which character is talking and when.  He only enjoyed the readers from the Western who we’re lured to read his novels due to familiarization and the urgency of the Western service.

In 2000 the movie version of All the Pretty Horses was out which was starred by Penelop Cruz and Matt Damon was out, and this earned him much fame. In 2007. The movie version for No Country for Old Men was out and was adapted by Coen Brothers.

The movie earned the Academy Award Winning Film. That same year his novel The Road was an Oprah’s book selection and won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize. Two years later its movie version was out in 2009 being starred by Kodi Smit-McPhee and Vigho Mortensen.

McCarthy died at the age of 89 years at his home in in Santa Fe on June 13, 2023. However, his cause of death has not been revealed.
